
Sioux Falls Victim Scammed Out Of More Than $50,000
According to Sioux Falls Public Information Officer, Sgt. Aaron Benson, a Sioux Falls fraud victim was scammed out of more than $50,000.
During Monday morning's press briefing, Sioux Falls Public Information Officer, Sgt. Aaron Benson explained about a fraud report made on Friday afternoon.
Around 10.30 a.m. Friday, a victim in this case reported that they had received a call from a person claiming to be a representative from the Wells Fargo legal department.
The caller stated that there were some issues with what they were saying was a Wells Fargo employee giving out the victim's bank account information to other people.
Due to this, the person posing as a Wells Fargo representative stated that they needed to do some work with the victim's bank account.
During the phone conversation, the caller was able to gain access to the victim's accounts.
The victim reported that after access was given to the caller that they took $46,000 out of one account and took $5,200 in cash out of a different account.
The $5,200 was physically mailed to a person with an address in Florida.
At this point, detectives are following up on that information.
There are no arrests related to this case, and it is still under investigation.
