You can't walk in or out of a grocery or department store this time of year without hearing the familiar sound of a bell ringing for the Salvation Army and their Red Kettle Campaign.

The campaign is once again underway here in the Sioux Empire, however, this holiday season, the Salvation Army is in dire need of bell ringers to help cover all of its various locations throughout the area.

Dakota News Now spoke with Sioux Falls Salvation Army Corps Officer, Major Marlys Anderson regarding the 2022 campaign, and she echoed the need for additional bell ringers.

According to Anderson, up to this point, volunteers have been coming in, but very slowly. Now that it's December, Anderson is hopeful that more volunteers will step forward.

If you're interested in volunteering...

You can register by using the Salvation Army's Register to Ring website. Volunteers have the ability to pick a particular location, along with a time and a date that they can help out.

Okay, how many times has this happened, you're walking by a Salvation Army Red Kettle and realize you don't have any cash or change at the time to drop into the kettle. No worries. Simply scan the QR Code on every Red Kettle with your phone and make a virtual donation later on.

The Salvation Army went digital a few years ago to make it even easier for people to get involved and donate to the annual campaign.

You should also know, the need for the Red Kettle Campaign has never been greater, especially with the rising cost of food prices thanks to skyrocketing inflation.

Anderson told Dakota News Now the Salvation Army has seen a huge increase in its feeding and pantry programs. The weekend feeding programs have nearly doubled in size over the past year and their food pantry orders are up over 50% as well.

December 10th is a big day for the Red Kettle Campaign.

It's their annual "MATCH" day, where people all over the community have graciously agreed to match the funds dropped into the red kettles that day. So please, if you're in a position to donate, December 10th is a great day to get involved.
