In a new report from our partners at Dakota News Now, officials confirm over 40 calls were made on Friday night in connection to the Empire Mall shooting. Evidence shows that the shooting mainly occurred near the corridor of The Buckle store. Thankfully, no one was injured during the horrific nightmare.
The day after the shooting, 18-year-old Sioux Falls resident Jaden Michael Justis Bingham was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault. Sioux Falls Police identified Jaden "through interviews and video." While investigating videos, Jaden is seen with four other individuals in a hallway of the Empire Mall.
Lt. Aaron Nyberg with the Sioux Falls Police Department tells Dakota News Now officers found two firearms in Bingham's residence and one in a vehicle outside. But now they are on a mission to find others involved with the shooting.
From what investigators know, the shooting does not seem planned.
"These people didn’t come to the mall targeting shoppers or random people at the mall. It appears to be two groups of people that just happened to meet with each other, maybe not even necessarily planned, they just happen to run across each other and be at the mall when it’s full of shoppers around Christmastime. The ongoing dispute picked up from there and escalated to where we had firearms produced and shots fired at each other."
Empire Mall officials sent a statement to Dakota News Now explaining that security will increase at the mall. Additional details about the Empire Mall shooting in Sioux Falls can be found here.
