Serving as the governmental headquarters for the state of Minnesota, the Minnesota State Capitol building is situated in the capital city of Saint Paul.

On May 11, 1858, Minnesota gained statehood and was officially admitted as the 32nd state in the Union.

The boundaries of the newly formed state were largely identical to the present-day borders of Minnesota.

However, the remaining portion of the former Minnesota Territory was not formally allocated until the establishment of the Dakota Territory in 1861.

In the census reports of 1860, this unassigned area was designated as "unorganized Dakota."

This architectural masterpiece houses the Minnesota Senate, the Minnesota House of Representatives, the Office of the Attorney General, and the Office of the Governor.

Located at 75 Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard, St Paul, MN 55155, the construction of this grand structure was a monumental endeavor for a state that had only been established for 37 years.

After nearly a decade of construction and a cost of around $4.5 million, the Minnesota State Capitol opened its doors to the public on January 2, 1905, just one day before the convening of the 34th legislative session.
