The game of golf is alive and well in the Sioux Empire.

Dakota News Now recently reported that city courses saw a record number of people play this golf season due in part to a number of new people taking up the game and better playing services throughout the city.

Heck, I plan to play again this Sunday, Ma Nature willing, that is. Hopefully, the weather remains decent enough to stay on the links into November. However, that might be a tough ask here in South Dakota.

Speaking of golf, I see the clubhouse at one of Sioux Falls most storied courses is about to get a major facelift next year.

Jodi Schwan and our friends at Pigeon 605 report that Elmwood Golf Course will be doing a major remodel of its clubhouse starting in 2024. The current clubhouse is almost 60 years old, as is the only golf course clubhouse in the Sioux Empire that has yet to be renovated.

That will change next spring when Elmwood tees off a new construction project that will transform the facility, giving it a modernized lounge, complete with dining amenities, a full-service kitchen, enlarged banquet spaces, and a beautiful new pro shop.

According to Pigeon 605, the South Dakota Golf Hall of Fame will also be making the move to the new Elmwood clubhouse. Once open, it will be located near the main entrance when you come in.

A classroom used to educate young beginning golfers, and help them get acclimated to the game will also be part of the renovation project. The classroom will come complete with practice areas. That aspect will be a joint venture between the city and First Tee of South Dakota.

Golfers will have full access to the existing clubhouse all next golfing season, as it will remain open until construction on the new building is complete.

Elmwood hopes to be able to move into the new facility towards the end of 2024, and have the new clubhouse fully operational for golfers by the start of the 2025 golf season.
