Driving this time of year in our tri-state area can be tricky at best. Especially with the kind of weather we've been having. But that being said, except for our larger cities, congestion isn't a huge problem here.

When you think about the best driving conditions, you probably think about gas prices, car maintenance prices, insurance costs, and of course, the condition of the roads you're driving on.

Wallet Hub's latest study is on the Best and Worst States to Drive In and they examined all 50 states in four major categories, A) Cost of ownership and maintenance, B) Traffic and infrastructure, C) Safety rank, and D) Access to Vehicles and maintenance.

Within those categories, they considered things like traffic congestion, weather, insurance premiums, road and bridge quality, and even collisions with animals.

One of our tri-state neighbors came out on top of this study. Yup, Iowa is the best state in the nation to drive in.

Here are the Top 5 Best Driving States:

  1. Iowa
  2. Georgia
  3. Kansas
  4. Oklahoma
  5. Alabama

These are the 5 Worst Driving States

  1. Hawaii
  2. Washington
  3. Delaware
  4. West Virginia
  5. California

South Dakota placed 24th and Minnesota came in 25th.
