3. Zeona (Pop. 10) Perched way up in northwestern South Dakota in Perkins County near the Cheyenne River. Founded in 1910, its name is believed to originate from a handwriting mistake by founder H.E. Rowson, who intended to name it "Leona" after his daughter.
4. Lantry (Pop. 25) About an hour and a half east of Zeona, Lantry is a small ranching community where cattle outnumber people by a wide margin. The town was named after early settlers, the Lantry family, who arrived in the area in June 1910.
5. Java (Pop. 150) Java may be the "big city" on this list, but it's still small. Located in Walworth County, Java was founded in 1900, shortly after the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway Line was extended from Bowdle to the Missouri River.
