South Dakotans love their blizzards, and to be clear, I'm not referring to the blizzards this state so frequently gets from December through April each year. Even though I know there are plenty of folks in this state who love those blizzards too, and they all should consider having their heads checked, if you ask me, but I digress.

South Dakotans, along with almost every other resident in the remaining 49 states love Dairy Queen Blizzards, no matter the time of year, especially during the hot summer months.

According to Dakota News Now, researchers at GCU (Grand Canyon University) just finished analyzing search trends on Google over the past 20 years to help determine each state's favorite Dairy Queen Blizzard flavor, and which flavors are in the biggest demand throughout the country.

When you get the inside dish on what Blizzard lovers here in the midwest enjoy, the Turtle Pecan Cluster Blizzard is the favorite in Hawkeye state. Iowans dig it the most. While North Dakotans appear to favor the Oreo Cookie flavor.

Minnesotans, along with all of us South Dakotans are all about the Snickers Blizzard, and oddly enough, we are the only two states in the nation that prefer that candy bar flavor.

The Blizard first debuted on the Dairy Queen menu in 1985, since that time the Turtle Pecan Cluster Blizzard has reigned supreme in 13 different states making it the most popular Blizzard flavor in the nation. It's followed closely by the Oreo Cookie Blizzard which currently tantalizes the tastebuds of residents in 11 additional states.

The GCU findings showed every state in the nation has a favorite flavor, with the exception of Vermont.

So what's up with Vermonters? They have extreme loyalty to the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream brand since it originated in the state. For that reason, Vermont is the only DQ Blizzard favorite flavor holdout in the nation.

Me, I'm kinda partial to the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard, that's a heap of good eating in my book.
