UPDATE: Freezing Rain, Accumulating Snow For Portions Of Minnesota, Wisconsin Later This Week
UPDATE: Winter weather advisories and watches have been issued for this weekend's storm. Follow the latest here.
Despite the fact that the calendar says it is officially springtime in Minnesota, that definitely doesn't mean that we're done with wintry weather.
While last weekend's forecasted winter storm wasn't quite as bad as predicted in most places, the forecast for the upcoming weekend will have people hoping it is inaccurate - because it looks downright icy and nasty for portions of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
While it is possible things can change between now and the weekend, there's a growing level of confidence from the National Weather Service about freezing rain, sleet, and accumulating snow to wrap up March.
What flavors of nasty will this weekend's weather be?
Much like earlier reports, icy conditions look to be in the cards for the end of the week and into the weekend, with freezing rain looking to be the most significant issue.
In their Wednesday morning update, the Duluth office of the National Weather Service breaks down the likelihood of accumulating ice from freezing rain, with widespread potential to wrap up the week and into the weekend.

Thursday night through Saturday morning, there appears to be a high likelihood of ice accumulations from freezing rain from the Duluth area up along the North Shore and onto the Iron Range, with spots in Northern Wisconsin also seeing a higher probability of ice accumulations, too.
A chance of ice accumulations extends down toward the Twin Cities and places like Hayward and Phillips in Wisconsin during this same timeframe.
Saturday through Saturday night, snow chances increase across the region, but there are still chances of freezing rain.

The greatest chances for ice accumulations are further south, extending from the Twin Ports area down toward the Twin Cities and Hayward, with the highest chances in places like Phillips, Hayward and eastward in Northern Wisconsin.
Snow chances Thursday night through Saturday morning are greatest in far northern Minnesota, with a few inches of snow possible during that timeframe.
Then, snow chances increase across the rest of the region being impacted by this storm. The National Weather Service is anticipating at least a few inches of snow, with a moderate chance of at least 2 inches of snow in places like the Duluth area, Brainerd, and Twin Cities.
The odds of heavier snow, 6 inches or more, are not extremely high but possible. As we get closer, we'll get more specific anticipated snow totals, but there is a slight-to-moderate chance of 6 or more inches of snow, particularly in a few spots on the North Shore and along the Wisconsin South Shore.
There is still some uncertainty about what is going to happen and where it will happen. The picture will continue to get clearer over the next day.
In the meantime, it's worth keeping your eye out for whatever this spring storm brings, as it has the potential to make for a messy end to the week and beginning of the weekend.
