A record-breaking 39 burgers are part of this year's Downtown Sioux Falls Burger Battle. Trying all burgers this year might be difficult, but one Sioux Falls man did the impossible.

So many Sioux Empire burger lovers try to eat every meal on the menu, but only a few succeed. Langston Newton of Sioux Falls is one of these brave people.

Langston Newton is no stranger to eating Downtown Sioux Falls cuisine. He works at Raven Industries and lives near the area, so it's easy for Langston to eat at local Downtown Sioux Falls restaurants almost every day.

Langston tells our friends at Pigeon 605 that he spent all of Saturday eating the burgers in 13 hours. But he says the time spent was well worth it since this "high-calorie and high-expense Saturday" is supporting local businesses.

“It’s a fun way to support local businesses, and on top of that, it’s just a fun thing to do. During the year, you get really excited about the chef’s specials, you know eating at Bread & Circus and waiting for them to post something or seeing what Swamp Daddy’s cooking up. You have so many friends downtown and getting to see and hang out with all the chefs, it’s just fun and exciting to see what they cook up for these types of months.”

Two years ago, Langston made his goal to try every burger part of the annual Sioux Falls competition. He even invites friends to try the leftover quarters of the burgers.

So what are Langston Newton's top burger picks this year? Here are his top 10 picks in alphabetical order:

  • Blarney Stone Pub
  • Dahlia Kitchen + Bar
  • Minervas
  • Parker’s Bistro
  • Severance Brewing Co., featuring Rudy M. Navarrete’s Tex-Mexican Catering
  • Swamp Daddy’s Cajun Kitchen
  • The Treasury
  • Wileys
  • Windy City Bites
  • Wood Grain Brewing, featuring Southern Perfection BBQ

Honorable mentions went to Big Sioux Burger, Monks Ale House, PAve, and Roots of Brasil. Langston tells Pigeon 605 that he intends to try his favorites inside each restaurant during the month of January. More of the story can be found here.

Only In Your State highlights these ten snowstorms in South Dakota as a reminder for people to always be aware of the roads during the winter. These South Dakotan winters can be harsh, which is why it is always a good idea to plan ahead and prepare for the worst.
