While working at the Grand Ole Opry's WSM Radio in Nashville, I was really impressed with one of the biggest names in entertainment: Minnie Pearl!

Minnie, who had one of the longest careers in the entertainment business, reminded me that the most important of life is not fame or fortune.  Rather---it is one's willingness to touch the lives of people going through difficult times.  Instead of withdrawing from life, during and after her bout with cancer, Minnie publicly shared her story in hopes it might give encouragement to others who were battling the disease.

Perhaps, this quote summarizes the actions of the late Minnie Pearl:  "The best cure for depression, worry and loneliness is to go forth deliberately and with one's encouragement---lift the gloom of somebody else."

Minnie Pearl did just that both on and off stage!
