PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Agriculture Department is asking rural youth groups to apply for grants to support community projects.

The grants are available to 4-H clubs, FFA chapters and Family Career and Community Leaders of America chapters. The grants were developed to demonstrate the importance of rural communities and the value of organizations that work to improve rural life.

Grants of up to $750 are available for community improvement projects, while grants of up to $200 are available for projects that enhance public safety.

The grants are provided through a program called Building Our South Dakota Rural Communities.

Applications are due by Oct. 31, and application forms are available online at http://sdda.sd.gov under Finance, Ranching and Agribusiness and then clicking on Financial Assistance Programs.
