Glacial Lakes Energy Planning Upgrades in Mina, Watertown

MINA, S.D. (AP) — Glacial Lake Energy is planning to spend $23 million on improvements to its facilities in Mina and Watertown.

Officials hope the work will allow the company to be more competitive in national and international markets. The Aberdeen American News reports that the upgrades also are expected to result in better margins and lower costs.

About $7 million will be spent at the Mina facility to add selective milling technology and to replace the current equipment used to extract corn oil.

Glacial Lake wants to spend $16 million in Watertown to add unit train capability with four rail loops each capable of holding 96 cars and to add 4.5 million gallons of ethanol storage.

The company is aiming to have both projects completed by next fall.
