PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A former South Dakota county prosecutor accused of raping a boy has now been charged in federal court.

Former Walworth County State's Attorney Christopher Jansen was charged earlier in state court with three counts of rape involving a child younger than 13 in Hughes County. The 34-year-old Selby resident late last month was ordered held without bond.

The Capital Journal reports that Jansen appeared in U.S. District Court on Monday on charges related to sexually exploiting a minor and videotaping the encounters. He faces up to 50 years in prison if convicted on the federal charges, and could get life on the state charges.

Defense attorney Joan Powell declined comment.
