Often times, the most moving and heartfelt song is the simplest.

I've always felt that Roger Miller was the most creative singer/songwriter in country music history. While there may have been better songwriter's (and for me, Kris Kristofferson would fit that bill) and more beautiful singer's, for pure creative talent, well, for me that's Roger Miller.

From the great fun and craziness of 'Dang Me' or 'You Can't Roller Skate In A Buffalo Herd' to the irresistible sing-a-long hit's 'King Of The Road' and 'England Swings', Roger could have you smiling and laughing out loud.

And then he could turn around and sing his great 'Husbands and Wives' and make you....pause.

That's what this forgotten classic does. Makes you pause. On the surface it is so simply written, so plaintive, so quiet. And yet in a sense, it explodes with meaning and lands smack dab in the middle of your mind, and in the center of your heart.

We all know these guys, these 'Old Friends'.
