SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — City-owned snowplows in Sioux Falls are again displaying some religious symbolism, but the debate sparked last year by the student-painted religious themes seems to have quieted down.

The Argus Leader reports that a disclaimer affixed to the snowplows explaining the city doesn't endorse the message appears to have created an apathetic harmony among both sides of the First Amendment-fueled debate.

Public and private school students in Sioux Falls decorate plow blades every year. Some students who have used the program as an opportunity to express their faith have painted messages such as "One nation under God" and "God will clear a way."

Siouxland Freethinkers, a local secular group, and city officials sparred over the student-created artwork, prompting officials to approve the disclaimer last December.
