Deng Geu’s Second Chance Opportunity Propels Washington over Roosevelt
The Washington Warriors snatched away a 52-51 victory over the Roosevelt Rough Riders in a highly competitive contest.
With 11 seconds left to play, senior Deng Geu had a second chance opportunity put-back that gave Washington the one point margin. The Rough Riders had an opportunity to win as Pierce Mriden had a open look but missed. Upon the miss, Mriden grabbed his own offensive rebound before being tied up for a jump ball as the clock expired.
Geu led the Warriors with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Ty Smith also scored double digits with 10, while Cole Benson added seven. Roosevelt had three players in double figures as Taryn Christion led with 19, Mriden with 14, and Tristan Teichmeier with 11.
The two teams were nearly inseparable. The largest lead obtained in the game was six points by Roosevelt. Washington and Roosevelt exchanged the lead 15 times, and the score was tied six times.
Washington extends their record to 17-2 with a regular season finale against O'Gorman on February 24. Roosevelt falls to 11-8 and will host Lincoln on February 24.
