My daughter has asked me multiple times since the building went up on South Louise Avenue if something was going to open in the vacant space soon. My answer for the longest time: "I have no idea."

She had high hopes the building would be a restaurant with a giant arcade or something to entertain kids. I finally have an answer for her, and her it appears her hopes were half right.

Enter Cody's Smokehouse BBQ

[Joe] Cody, a barbecue lover, has studied restaurants across the country for years before putting together his original concept. He settled on a Kansas City-style approach with product smoked on site, a dry rub and five sauce options.

The menu also will include St. Louis-style ribs, beef brisket, chicken, shredded pork and turkey.

Schwan goes on to say that Joe Cody, the owner of the restaurant, plans to hire 60 to 70 employees and is targeting a late June opening.

It’s a little early by standards in the past, but because it’s so hard to get help, a lot of people put up a hiring sign and start construction.

Cody's Smokehouse BBQ joins an ever-growing list of barbecue restaurants in Sioux Falls, including Rowdy Hog Smokin' BBQ, Big Rig BBQ, Backyard Grill, Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que. Who needs to wait for RibFest to get great BBQ!
