Chris Young has a heart as big as Texas. The singer launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for those affected by Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas, and the surrounding areas, and plans to do much more to help those struggling in the Lone Star State.

"I just wanted to do something, at least to get a jump on it," Young told The Boot and other reporters on Tuesday (Aug. 29). "I've got other things I'm already working on with radio, and a lot of other things that are going to take time to actually get going. But being able to give to people a place to donate, and push them towards it, is something that I wanted to do and wanted to get out in front of."

Young himself kick-started his GoFundMe campaign with $100,000 of his own money. At press time, the fund had raised more than $309,000, all of which will be donated to the Red Cross and other local Texas disaster relief organizations.

"It's been unbelievable seeing the generosity and the humanity and compassion that people have shown for other people in need," Young says. "It's pretty incredible, just watching it."

Young is a Tennessee native, but he lived in Arlington, Texas, prior to signing his record deal. He’s also, of course, toured throughout Texas, and owns a home that’s located in one of the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Harvey.

"I have no idea what it looks like, and in the best way possible, I don't really care, because I'm worried about the people," Young shares. "Everybody else is okay, that I know, and all of my friends and family are accounted for, and that's the most important thing."

Young says that seeing how many people are giving whatever they can to help Hurricane Harvey victims has been encouraging to him.

"The fact that you see this, a wonderful thing from other people trying to help, and that humanity and that compassion, it's pretty incredible," Young says. "I'm glad to be a very, very small part of it, but the big part of it has been everybody else that's kind of rallied to it. It's an incredible thing."

Fans can visit GoFundMe to make a donation to Young's campaign. Granger Smith, Luke Combs, the Josh Abbott Band, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert and more have also been encouraging fans to help however they can.
