Check Out The Newest South Dakota Statue of President Trump

A South Dakota town just revealed a new statue honoring President Donald Trump as part of a celebration of an iconic tradition in our state.

Rapid City, South Dakota, celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the City of Presidents tour over the weekend. The major part of the day was the unveiling of the newest statue to Rapid City—President Donald J. Trump.

This Rapid City gem began "in 2000 to honor the legacy of the American presidency. Each sculpture is privately funded, and the pattern of placement was chosen to maintain the orderly structure and eliminate any sense of favoritism or political gain. The City of Presidents is part of the Rapid City Historic District Tour." These sculptures are so cool to see on the Rapid City streets. They are life-size statues that allow residents and tourists a unique encounter with history.

Our partners at Dakota News Now are reporting that the artist Jim Maher is no stranger to adding to the "trail of history." Jim Maher spoke with KOTA in Rapid City, saying he's also completed the Presidential statues of Ronald Reagan, Herbert Hoover, and George W. Bush.

“It’s wonderful to see people come downtown and tour around the presidents and enjoy them. As an artist, that’s one of the best things, one of the biggest rewards you can get is having somebody have a piece of work you’ve done mean something to somebody.”

South Dakota Rep. Dusty Johnson attended the event and mentioned to KOTA that, unlike past statues, this one represents a current, modern view of the president. The statue of President Trump will be on the Rapid City streets at the corner of 6th and St. Joseph streets in the fall. Get more details here.
