I'm not a hardcore gamer. Not even close. I own a PS3 and the newest game I own is MLB The Show from 2014. I'm no expert on what is cool and trendy in the gaming world.

I'm a fringe gamer. I grew up with video games and still more than occasionally play the ones I really like. For me that's pretty much MLB The Show, Madden, and Call of Duty.

Remember when Call of Duty was the coolest video game franchise? I do.

I discovered the original Call of Duty on PC in 2005. Then I bought every available version for PC after that until getting a PS3 in 2009. I owned every COD title after that.

However, when I rented Black Ops II from a Redbox I played it and thought "What the hell are they doing? What's this stupid futuristic crap?" I didn't buy Black Ops II.

The following year I rented Ghosts. That one was okay, but when it went to space they totally lost me. I didn't buy that one until literally a couple of months ago when I was really hard up for something different and got it for $5 at Last Stop.

Then there is the trilogy of suck that followed: Advanced Warfare, Black Ops III, and Infinite Warfare.

Yesterday, my grown man gaming prayers were answered. Call of Duty goes back to where it started with Call of Duty: WWII. It will be released on November 3, 2017. It will be the first cold South Dakota winter I will spend with a new video game since 2011.

Josh Duhamel is playing Sgt. William Pierson in the game. No other cast members have been announced that I can see. Nor do I really care.

I hadn't planned on it, but now I will finally buy a PS4 in November. Probably on the day it is released. No, the day before. I'm not sitting through updates on day one.
