Bullhead Woman Sentenced for 13th Child Abuse Conviction

BULLHEAD, S.D. (AP) — A Bullhead woman's 13th conviction for child abuse has landed her in federal prison for three years and one month.

U.S. Attorney Randolph Seiler says 43-year-old Velnita Hairy Chin was arrested last June when she was found drunk and passed out while in the care of several children.

Hairy Chin was indicted last July, pleaded guilty in November and was sentenced this week. She had 12 previous convictions for child abuse or neglect. She'll be on supervised release for three years following her prison term.
