Breaking Your Phone On Purpose

It may have been no accident that you broke your smart phone just as the newer model came out.

Columbia Business School researchers who suspected it happened too often found it's actually not a coincidence.

Their study is called "Be Careless With That! Availability of Product Upgrades Increases Cavalier Behavior toward Possessions."

Researchers found people were, in fact, more careless with their phones around the same time the new model was about to be released.

They call it the upgrade effect.
