SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A man facing a manslaughter charge stemming from what authorities in Sioux Falls have determined to be an accidental shooting has made his initial court appearance.

Judge John Schlimgen on Monday set a $100,000 cash-only bond for 21-year-old David Randle Jr., of Sioux Falls.

Authorities say Randle was holding a rifle Saturday during a gathering at an apartment when it discharged and a bullet hit a major artery in the leg of 19-year-old Mikael Mengitsu Ashame. The Sioux Falls man died at the scene despite first aid efforts.

Sioux Falls Police Capt. Blaine Larsen says authorities don't believe Randle intentionally killed Ashame.

The gun's owner, 19-year-old Mason Mitzel, of Brandon, is facing several drug charges. Schlimgen set Mitzel's bond at $20,000 cash or surety.

It's unclear whether Randle and Mitzel have attorneys who could comment on their cases.
