SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A bill introduced in the South Dakota House would clarify state law on when part-time employees injured on the job should also receive workers' compensation benefits for their other part-time positions.

The bill stems from a 2015 state Supreme Court ruling that sided with Patricia Wheeler, a Sioux Falls resident injured at her job at a Cinnabon in Empire Mall.

Wheeler wanted her workers' compensation insurer to cover lost wages from all three of her part-time jobs, and the justices agreed after finding that state law was ambiguous on the issue.

The bill introduced by Rep. David Anderson would allow for the aggregation of wages from multiple jobs, but the language would define when it applies and only affect claims filed after the Supreme Court's May 2015 ruling.
