The downtown Sioux Falls parking ramp construction project has been cleared for takeoff again.

KSFY TV is reporting the Sioux Falls City Council green-lighted the project on Tuesday night during a 6-1 vote. The vote approved an additional $1.5 million to complete the parking ramp portion of a mixed-use project in downtown Sioux Falls.

Council members agreed to briefly table additional funding for the project during a meeting held on Tuesday night (November 5). Councilors wanted more time to examine the project after it had already exhausted its previous budget.

KSFY reports that shortly after the decision was made to press pause on the construction project, Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken used YouTube to tell residents the city has a responsibility to follow through on its commitment to open the new parking ramp in a timely manner. He cited reasons like the parking demand for nearby tenants downtown, and the need to meet those demands with a safe property.

The mayor also stressed the need to protect our current investment in the parking ramp in order to see the asset functional and producing revenue.

According to KSFY, now that Council Members have decided to move forward with the additional funding, work on the construction project can resume. If work stays on track, the project could be completed by June of 2020.
