We basically had two choices for our national and international news back there in those long ago years.

Called 'the most trusted man in America', millions of American's got their nightly news on CBS from Walter Cronkite.

Millions of other's tuned in to NBC for Chet and David....the 'Huntley-Brinkley Report'.

From 1956 until mid 1970, we'd watch Chet Huntley in New York and David Brinkley in Washington, D.C.  It seems rather quaint now, of course, but back 'in the day' it was pretty amazing that two co-anchors could be in different places!

From the 1960 extremely close Presidential election through the Kennedy assassination, the Vietnam war, MLK and RFK assassination's, the turbulent sixties, the moon walk....there was Walter on one channel and Chet & David on the other.

You see, on the farm back then, we only received those two stations.

Chet Huntley passed away in 1974.  David Brinkley died in 2003.
