When disaster strikes, country singers are great about banding together to lend a helping hand. On Monday (July 22), Dierks Bentley put on a charity concert for the families of 19 firefighters from the Granite Mountain Hotshots, part of the Prescott Fire Department, who lost their lives in a wildfire south of Prescott, Ariz.

Bentley teamed up with the Band Perry, David Nail and Randy Houser for the Country Cares Concert, which directly benefited the families of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. As a native Arizonan, Bentley worked tirelessly to organize the benefit show in just over a week. Judging by the $476,000 raised so far, the country star pulled it off.

Family members of the 19 late firefighters, as well as the sole surviving member of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, were in attendance. Bentley honored the fallen firefighters with a photo tribute during his first-ever performance of a brand new song, ‘Here on Earth.’ He also kicked off a special version of ‘Home’ with a bagpipe intro by the Rural Metro Pipe and Drum Corp.

The Hotshots were killed while fighting an out-of-control, 2,000-acre blaze just south of Prescott. Winds shifted and caused a rapid swirl of fire that trapped the 19 firefighters on a hillside. The men tried to deploy emergency shelters, but they were still unable to withstand the heat. An initial autopsy found that most died of burns or inhalation problems.

All money raised from the Country Cares event will go to the United Phoenix Firefighters Charities, who will directly distribute to the families of the 19 fallen firefighters
