South Dakota officers take pride in its K9s on the job, including the officers with the Yankton Police Department. Sadly, one of its beloved K9 members passed away after years of service with the department.

Officials with the Yankton Police Department recently shared in a Facebook post the devastating news of K9 Max passing away. He proudly served the City of Yankton for almost seven years.

The Yankton Police Department says K9 Max passed away on Wednesday, August 27th.

K9 Max proudly served the City of Yankton from May 2015 to February 2022. Whether it was narcotics detection or searching the unknown, K9 Max carried out his duties with focus, courage and loyalty. Rest in peace, Max; you have earned it.

Working in law enforcement is a tough job. K9s like Max help rescue Yankton Police Department officers from bad days. They also give residents a sense of safety and peace during times of trouble. Max clearly made his mark in Yankton, and residents are showing their respect on Facebook
