Memorial Day weekend is not only the start of Summer, but it's officially the start of the auto racing season for race fans. The pinnacle of racing events, The Indianapolis 500, takes place traditionally on the Sunday of memorial Day weekend.

The 2018 event was an exciting race. It saw the winning car move to the lead in the final laps and the winner getting his first ever Indy 500 victory.

Australian race car driver Will Power finally got the win he's been working on, and that's winning his first Indianapolis 500. Power took over the lead with less than five laps to go from Stefan Wilson.

Power ran out front of the pack for most of the race after starting outside of the front row. Coming in behind Power was Ed Carpenter in second place.

Carpenter started on the pole and led the race for the first 30 laps, but ended up pitting under green. Former Indy 500 winners Scott Dixon and Alexander Rossi came in third and fourth respectively. And nd Ryan Hunter-Reay was fifth.

Danica Patrick's professional race car driving career came to an end Sunday after crashing out on Lap 67. Helio Castroneves crashed late in the race giving up his chances of a fourth Indy 500 win in an effort to tie A.J. Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears with record career wins.
