I've always loved Cal Smith. He had a great song selection and that voice, wow! It's hard to get more 'country' than the late great Cal Smith.

Cal had his signature song in 1974 with 'Country Bumpkin', a song that Garth Brooks has called his favorite country song of all time. I don't know if it's my favorite, but I will say this, I turn it up every time I hear it!

So how in the world does an artist follow-up a song like that? You know, that once-in-a-career (if you're lucky) type smash?

Well, Cal's follow-up single was another great classic that asked an, uh, perplexing question. What do you do? Give in to lust or just watch TV? Or maybe, just maybe, something in the middle?

And a final personal note: I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Cal back in the late 1970's in Aberdeen, South Dakota before he performed at the Brown County Fair. We visited for about a half hour before I even started the tape. He was genuinely one of the friendliest and kindest gentlemen I've ever met.
