Today marks a day in history that involves a man who really touched my life. And perhaps your life too.

I never met the man in person. But at a special point of each and everyday of my growing up years, he touched me.

The special point of the day that I'm talking about, is setting down for supper with mom and dad. The man I'm talking about is Walter Cronkite on the evening news.

During approximately 30 minutes, I sat directly across from my dad and talked with him about his day and mine. I ate the fantastic meal that mom prepared. And we listened to Walter tell us everything about what was going on in the world we lived in, hanging on to every word he had to say. And that was life as I remember it.

It was a dramatic moment on March 6, 1981 as we watched him say goodbye on our TV set.
