In the fall of 2018, Walker Hayes dropped the music video for his newest song, "90's Country," and threw a party so his fans could see the clip first. During that event, the country singer performed an acoustic version of the song, which is premiering exclusively on The Boot.

The acoustic version of "90's Country" dials back the production that listeners hear on the studio version of the song, naturally, but keeps its signature beat strong. Onstage alone, Hayes creates the melody on his acoustic guitar, accompanying himself on the song he co-wrote with Shane McAnally and LYRX.

"Do you love me? If you do, check yes, please / Girl, you know you think my tractor's sexy," Hayes sings in the chorus of "90's Country," calling out a total of 22 '90s country songs throughout the song. "Got me spinnin' like a jukebox junkie / Makin' me feel like '90s country / You make me feel like '90s country."

"I wanna go up to so many artists and say, 'I'm sorry [I couldn't reference one of your songs].' I mean, Travis Tritt? I will die disappointed that his songs aren't in there. And Jo Dee Messina," Hayes tells The Boot. However, it was important to Hayes that the song not be just a list of song titles.

"It's easy to just spit out a rap of '90s country songs," Hayes explains. "What was difficult was putting everything in the right place, and adding in a few lines to remind [the listener] that this song is about a real person, singing about the stuff they listened to."

"90's Country" is the first new song that Hayes has released since his 2017 album Boom. The track is now available for download and streaming.
