USD forward Hannah Sjerven was selected in the 2022 WNBA Draft on Monday night by the Minnesota Lynx with the 28th pick.

Sjerven was a star in her lengthy career with the Coyotes and was a catalyst for the postseason success of USD as well.

Her ability to dominate defensively, rebound efficiently and get buckets on a regular basis accompanied with her recent ability to step outside the arch, made her a desirable prospect for the WNBA.

She reacted to the news on Monday and was as excited as you could be about the opportunity.

"This is the best possibility I could have dreamed of. I couldn't have even imagined this, watching the Lynx play as a little girl, now getting to go to training camp with them is so exciting."

According to USD, Sjerven is expected to join the Lynx immediatly as the season is right around the corner.

Preseason workouts for Sjerven and the Lynx are expected to begin next week. Minnesota's season opener is at Seattle on May 6. The home opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 8 against the Washington Mystics.

After an amazing career in Vermillion, Sjerven gained a lot of fans throughout the state of South Dakota that now will be supporting her in this professional journey in the WNBA.
