‘Twisters’ Filming in Oklahoma is All Over Social Media Right Now
I'm positive we've talked about this before, but I'm going to tell it again. When I was growing up, the original Twister film was shot in and around my hometown. You cannot believe how exciting it was to Small-Town Oklahoma.
Now that the sequel, Twisters, is shooting around other parts of the state, social media is filled with sneak peeks and behind-the-scenes videos since they're shooting this movie so publicly around the state.
Not only has Hollywood made OKC believably pass for New York City in some shots, but there are also tons of props spread far and wide across Central Oklahoma right now.
If you remember the scene in the original Twister when the 18-wheeler came flying down the road toward the main characters, that was practical effects. They hoisted and suspended a real 18-wheeler on a rig with cables and literally flew it down the road for the shot. They also actually drove a truck through a rolling house, that's why so much of the movie looked so real. I'm pretty curious how much Hollywood is going to lean on CGI in this upcoming sequel...
Even as principal filming is set to wrap up in Oklahoma pretty quickly, Twisters won't be out for at least a year. They've opted for a June, 19 box-office opening this time around though... Apparently, the wild coincidence of tornadoes striking theaters while the original was on screen was just too much.
