The Best Iowa Grilled Cheese Is Made By A High School Student
A tasty grilled cheese with a warm bowl of tomato soup is a classic meal in any home across the country, especially in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa. But one Iowa grilled cheese stands out from the rest.
Hinton, Iowa high school student Allison Hoefling was recently named the Grilled Cheese Champion at the annual Iowa Conference for the Future Career and Community Leaders of America. This cooking challenge is too cheesy to resist!

The mission of Future Career and Community Leaders of America is about "Promoting personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education." Future Career and Community Leaders of America gives members hands-on, real-world experience while promoting leadership and responsibility.
Six Iowa high school students like Allison Hoefling took their cooking skills to the test and fought for the title of Grilled Cheese Champion. But Allison's recipe was named the best of the best!
So what makes this Iowa grilled cheese the very best in the entire state? Allison Hoefling's special grilled cheese includes the following ingredients:
- Three different kinds of cheese
- Bacon
- Roasted garlic
- Onion jam
It sounds easy to make and delicious! I mean...who doesn't love grilled cheese?! Even with the addition of garlic, I'd try it.
Allison Hoefling made a stop to KCRG in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to make her award-winning grilled cheese. You can watch Allison make her grilled cheese step-by-step here. If she is thinking about her future, I can see Allison having a successful career as a chef with her grilled cheese. You can read more of her story here from our partners at Dakota News Now.
Well done and congratulations, Allison!
