Sweet Sioux Falls Driver Apologizes for Splashing Water on Couple

Update 4/2/25: The father of the driver reached out to give us further details of the events. The driver found the couple and was able to explain a tricky situation. The father of the driver explained that the "other driver was running her off the road accidentally, so my daughter who was directly next to the red car sped up to get out of the way, unfortunately hitting the puddle." That's always a tough position to be in as a driver!

The good news? The couple was very understanding.

She DID get ahold of the people she ALMOST splashed. Turns out it didn’t splash them at all. The dad was super cool and was relieved because he thought it was done on purpose! My daughter felt good to be able to apologize and explain there was no malice involved.

Good to see a happier ending to this story! It's also great to hear that everyone is safe and no one was harmed.

It doesn't happen too often, but a Sioux Falls driver is trying to apologize to a couple walking with their baby after their speeding driving caused a big splash. Do you know this couple?

It sounds like the driver was trying to avoid a car crash early Monday morning.

I was on my way to turn right onto 41st in a residential area. A red car ahead of me flashed their left turn signal and started pulling into the left turning lane, so I thought I’d be okay to pass them given they were almost completely in the turning lane by then. However, as I passed them, they seemed to slow down and then change their mind, nearly turning into me. I sped up in attempt to not get hit, and moved closer to the curb, where I missed seeing a giant freaking puddle. To make matters worse- a couple and was walking with a stroller, of which I can only assume was carrying their BABY. Although I barely caught it in my peripheral vision, I saw the water launch up and presumably splash them. If this was you, just want to say that I am SO SORRY. I was gonna pull over just to make sure everything was okay, but obviously no one was hurt and I was late to work.

We know what it's like to be late for work, especially on Mondays! This is a harmless accident, and the driver is trying to make it right.
