Sioux Falls police and the SWAT team intervened to save a life after a caller phoned into 911 threatening suicide and a gunshot was heard from the home.

The call originated from a residence in the 1600 Block of South Grandview Avenue, near the intersection of E 24th Street and S. Grandview in Sioux Falls.

According to Sergeant Adam Peterson the call came in to Metro Communications about 7:20 PM on Friday (October 14):

Officers responded to the address and when they arrived they heard what they believed to be a gunshot.  Patrol officers tried to contact the resident of the location but were unsuccessful.  The Emergency Response Team was activated and SWAT and Negotiators responded to the location.  At 10:55 P.M. the SWAT team was able to call the person to come outside.  The citizen did so and was taken into custody without incident.  He was then provided mental health assistance.

After the man was in custody, authorities completed a thorough sweep of the property and surrounding areas.  There were no firearms located, and there was no damage to the property.
