South Dakota Military Alliance to Host A Night With Heroes
The South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance will host its signature community gathering, "A Night with Heroes," on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at The Alliance event center in Sioux Falls. Retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Kim "KC" Campbell, a decorated combat fighter pilot, will deliver this year’s keynote address.
During her 24-year Air Force career, Colonel Campbell logged more than 1,800 flight hours across 100-plus combat missions in an A-10 Warthog. She made aviation history during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 when her aircraft sustained catastrophic anti-aircraft damage over Baghdad. After losing all hydraulic controls, she successfully piloted the manual-reversion aircraft using mechanical cables and cranks for an hour back to safety.

Campbell, author of the bestselling Flying in the Face of Fear: A Fighter Pilot’s Lessons on Leading with Courage, now speaks to global corporate audiences on high-stakes decision-making. Her address will center on resilience, operational teamwork, and decisive leadership under extreme pressure.
Beyond the keynote presentation, the annual gathering serves to honor military personnel, veterans, and their families. The evening’s program includes a formal "welcome home" ceremony dedicated to active-duty service members completing their tours and reintegrating into South Dakota communities.
