If you've ever had a bowl of Kellogg's Rice Krispies you've no doubt seen Snap, Crackle and Pop, the three little elves featured on the front of the box.

But have you ever wondered which one is the oldest or if they're all the same age? If so, you've come to the right place.

After doing some intensive investigative research (wink, wink) I've learned that Snap is actually the oldest of the three, first appearing in 1933.

Crackle is the middle child and Pop the youngest. Snap is the elf wearing the chef's hat, Crackle a sleeping hat and Pop a drum major's outfit.

Kellogg's describes their personalities as "resembling brothers." Snap is known as the problem solver, Crackle the unsure middle child and Pop the mischievous youngster.

What you may not realize is when the elves were first introduced they were actually three elderly gnomes. In 1949 they were "younged up" in order to appeal to a younger audience.

And in 1950, for a brief time, there was actually a fourth elf named Pow. He represented the "claimed explosive nutritional value" of Rice Krispies. He didn't last long.

Another change came in the early 1990's when the elves were depicted for a short time as Superheros. But they were later returned to their original elf-like form.

So, now you know about Snap, Crackle and Pop should the topic ever come up during the course of a conversation, or if you're needing a good bar bet topic for the weekend.

Finally, I leave you with this one last bit of trivia you can use to stump your friends with - in Australia Rice Krispies are called Rice Bubbles.

You're welcome!
