Ground Works Midwest, DakotAbilities, All-Saints Neighborhood Association, and the Minnehaha Master Gardeners are partnering to create a teaching/community garden at the Longfellow Center of DakotAbilities.

Eight raised garden beds will be constructed on Saturday September 24, 2016 beginning at 9:00 am at the Longfellow site of DakotAbilities, located at 201 East 38th St., Sioux Falls.

Individuals from all partner groups will be building the beds and filling them with soil and compost. Prep work, including excavation of soil and placing crushed concrete has been provided by Groundwater Inc. and Concrete Materials.

Ground Works Midwest specializes in school teaching gardens and is excited to consider this new venture within the ever growing network of teaching gardens. Joe Dvorak, Director of Day Services for DakotAbilities comments, “The garden will support our mission of developing independence as well as social relationships. The garden will help teach care and responsibility for the plant life that springs from the garden."

A public launch and a Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting will take place at the DakotAbilities teaching garden site at 4:30 pm on Monday October 3.
