Sioux Falls Police Sgt. Aaron Benson says a man was assaulted with a hammer in a residence on Spring Avenue near 17th Street Tuesday night.

"Officers on scene found the victim away from the residence. He had a laceration on the left side of his forehead. He also had a bump on his head and redness as well."

Benson says an argument turned violent between the victim and the suspect.

"According to the victim, he was at this residence with a friend of his. He ran into a male subject who was in a bedroom. Apparently the victim had taken his bike inside the residence. The suspect in this case got into an argument with him about the bike being inside. An altercation took place. The victim stated he was hit on the head with a hammer one time and was then punched in the head several times. He was able to get free from the suspect and then contacted police."

Benson says 38-year-old Jade White of Sioux Falls was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

The victim was not hospitalized.
