Organizations and people across the Sioux Empire paid their respects to the fallen this Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is more than just a three-day weekend. It's a time to reflect and remember those who gave their lives for the freedoms we have today. Many of the servicemen and women who gave their lives for our country proudly called South Dakota home.

Instead of closing for the day, some businesses like Chick-fil-A in Sioux Falls honored those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Chick-fil-A at Empire Place made it a priority to have an open table set for the brave men and women.

Chick-fil-A in Sioux Falls gave us all a reminder of the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice reminds us of the true meaning of freedom and the cost it carries.

Chick-fil-A is not the only organization paying tribute to the fallen on Memorial Day. The Sioux Falls Police Department dedicated one of its cars to the real heroes of this nation.

Department Car #1776 is a dedication to the veterans and the fallen, not just on Memorial Day, but every day at the Sioux Falls Police Department. Sioux Falls is also loving the new design on Department Car #1776.

Thank you for remembering us veterans!

Car #1776? That's awesome. I love it!

Thank you for always putting your lives on the line every day so the community can be a safer place

Thank you is not enough to show our appreciation to the men and women who gave their lives for our freedom.

We truly wouldn't be where we are today without the brave men and women who fought for this country. Thank you, veterans, especially thank you to members of my family who risked their lives for this country: James "Bob" Murphy, James Manika, and Bradley Burt.
