Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken Wants to Reduce Prostitution, Sex Crimes
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The Sioux Falls mayor wants the city to crack down on prostitution.
The Argus Leader reports that Mayor Paul TenHaken is asking for two additional police officers to help target prostitutes, pimps and johns doing business in the city. He wants to triple the number of stings aimed at stopping sex crimes.
TenHaken says the city's growth and its location at the intersection of two interstates makes the area prime territory for sex trafficking and prostitution.
Sioux Falls authorities have made at least seven arrests this year related to buying and selling sex.
The two new officers would increase the city's street crimes unit to six people.
