SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A Sioux Falls man has been sentenced to spend five years in prison for soliciting sex from a 13-year-old girl.

At his sentencing Monday, Howard Britton, through his defense attorney, said he was under the influence of methamphetamine when he solicited the girl last fall. He earlier pleaded guilty to charges.

Circuit Court Judge Natalie Damgaard gave the 47-year-old Britton eight years in prison with three years suspended and credit for 264 days served in jail.

The Argus Leader says police began investigating Britton in September 2017 after girl, who is known to Britton, said he had attempted to get her to show him her "privates" and asked her to perform a sex act. Court documents say the girl told Britton she was too young.
