Up-and-coming country artist Ruthie Collins is preparing to release her debut record in October, but in advance, she's giving fans the opportunity to hear some of its tracks. Readers can press play above to hear Collins' new song "Boys and Beaches," and see its lyric video, premiering exclusively on The Boot.

"Boys and Beaches," Collins tells The Boot, is a song about "first-time love and first-time heartbreak." The lyrics compare love to the ocean: "overwhelming and dangerous ... and beautiful."

"I came here looking for a little bit of sunshine and a good time / Sea salt, boardwalk, toes in the sand," Collins sings in the chorus of "Boys and Beaches." "I never knew somebody like you would fix my heart and wreck it too / But that's what boys an beaches do."

A native of Fredonia, N.Y., Collins was introduced to music by her mother, a church organist; at a young age, Collins was learning to play the piano and the violin. She attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, then began working as the music director for a church in San Antonio, Texas; in the mid-2000s, Collins moved to Nashville. In addition to her music career, Collins hosts A&E's Home.Made. mini-shows.

Signed to Curb Records, Collins will release her debut disc, Get Drunk and Cry, on Oct. 20. The record is available for pre-order on iTunes and to stream on Spotify.
