MADISON, S.D. (AP) — Some people who live around Lake County's Brant Lake want to incorporate into what they say could be the first new city in eastern South Dakota in half a century.

The lake area had only about 12 full-time residents two decades ago, but now there are dozens.

Proponent Dave Philips says being a municipality would put decisions in the hands of people who live there.

The Madison Daily Leader reports that the County Commission has authorized an election March 29. There are 82 people eligible to vote — registered voters who live within the proposed city boundaries or own land there.
