Rapid City Man Sentenced for Raping Child Who Had His Baby

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — A Rapid City man has been sentenced to five years in prison for raping a 14-year-old girl who got pregnant and had his child.

The Rapid City Journal reports 26-year-old Terrance Peterson was sentenced on Thursday. He pleaded guilty to fourth-degree rape of the girl.

Pennington County prosecutors say the crime happened between July and August 2014.

A DNA test after the baby was born proved he was the father.

Peterson's wife was slated to testify at the sentencing on Thursday but did not show up. Peterson's attorney says the couple intends to get divorced.
