SUMMERSET, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has identified a 51-year-old man who died in an accident on an all-terrain vehicle.

Troopers say 51-year-old William Hardy was driving an ATV down a gravel road Thursday near Summerset. Hardy lost control going up a steep hill, the ATV went off the road and he was thrown from the vehicle.

Authorities say Hardy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Meade County Sheriff's Office and Summerset Police Department also were at the scene.
