Off the Tee: Rickie’s Meltdown in the Desert, Bubba Hears the Boo Birds, Pebble Beach Preview
If the Phoenix Open was a 70-hole event, Rickie Fowler would be celebrating his fourth PGA Tour win, but instead, a major meltdown left Fowler with his ninth career runner-up finish.
In this edition of "Off The Tee" with Joel Harrington from 4 Deep Golf Blog, we talk about Rickie going off the rails on 17 at TPC Scottsdale and the rest of what's making news in the world of golf.
Some of the headlines:
- Hideki Matsuyama took advantage of Fowler's stumble and won the Phoenix Open on the fourth playoff hole. The win was Matsuyama's second on tour.
- Bubba Watson's mouth got him in trouble in Arizona when he made negative comments about the course and tournament and was roundly booed by the always boisterous gallery in Scottsdale.
- This week it's a visit to the best-known public golf course in America, Pebble Beach, for the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Joel likes Dustin Johnson and Irishman Shane Lowry in California.
- Jim Furyk will miss three months after opting to have wrist surgery.
